Take away
to reveal
The name comes from outrenoir, beyond black: the light that black reveals. Outrenoir designs light for artworks and spaces, and always begins by taking away.
Light that is discreet yet essential, able to reveal the works without altering them, to give relief to spaces and to offer visitors a comfortable visit.
One studio,
three perspectives
Outrenoir is a lighting design studio dedicated to showing artworks and spaces at their best: museums, exhibitions, heritage sites and cultural venues.
The studio builds on Ugo Cerina's career. After graduating with a DNSEP from the École supérieure d'art d'Aix-en-Provence in 2013, he discovered lighting while working with lighting designers and soon turned to museum lighting.
More than fifteen years of experience, from lighting technician to lighting designer, including seven years at the Musée d'Orsay lighting the collections, have given him a sensitive expertise in contact with the works. Since 2010, more than 270 projects: temporary and permanent exhibitions, new museums, in Paris, Monaco, Luxembourg, Doha or Abu Dhabi.
With Célia Jouve, Gauthier Le Rouzic and Fleur Cerina, the studio works with museums, artists, curators, architects, exhibition designers and other lighting designers, from design to technical delivery.

Permanent galleries and new museums: lasting light, focused work by work, as at the Musée d'Orsay.
Artists and spaces
Artists' installations, heritage sites and cultural venues, with artists, architects and exhibition designers.
Six steps,
one project
From design to technical delivery, the studio is involved at every step, for a seamless integration of the lighting that respects the works and the specific needs of each space.
Listening
Meeting the museum, the curator, the artist, the exhibition designer or the architect: the narrative, the visitor route, the schedule and the budget.
The works and the space
Study of the works and their sensitivity to light, of volumes, materials and daylight, and of conservation constraints.
Design
A stance that serves the project: what to reveal, what to leave in shadow, the atmosphere and the comfort of the visit.
Tailored solutions
Choice of fixtures, optics and filters, illuminance calculations, costed scenarios fitted to the needs of the space.
Technical delivery
Following the installation with the venue's teams and the contractors, for a discreet and seamless integration of the lighting.
Focusing
Aiming and focusing work by work, in contact with the works: the know-how gained over seven years at the Musée d'Orsay.
